Week 42 Summary - Preparing for Vacation!
This week was a pretty normal one as far as weeks in Luxembourg go!
The weather has definitely turned more rainy and cool. We're not complaining at all because we all love it better than the heat.
This week the kids have been getting ready to go on vacation next week by getting ahead a week in school. For the most part they've done a great job. We're excited on Tuesday to go and visit Munich, Salzberg, Vienna, Bratislava, Prague and Frankfurt. It will be a lot of driving but we're excited to see Dachau, Neuschwanstein castle, the Haufbrauhaus, and 3 new countries!
It will be Grandma and Grandpas second week in Europe. We're excited to go with them on this trip.
They spent the week in Paris, Bruges and London. Mom's eye has been better but still pretty bad. At one point in the national museum in London it got way worse, but since then has been getting better. They've been having a great time visiting the major tourist sights!
One big thing that happened this week is that Emilee learned how to solve the Rubik's cube. It was hilarious to watch her and Jacob interact. She kept saying, "I don't have his brain!". Her first time that she solved it on her own she got it done in 5 minutes and 6 seconds. She was pretty stoked. However, she can now get it in 3 min and 45 seconds.
Jacob is practicing furiously for his competition in November. He's entering for multiple types of cubes, so he's practicing on a whole bunch of them. I'm with Emmy, I don't have his brain!
Spencer woke up one evening to a huge nasty surprise. He had felt something crawling up his leg in his bed, but he didn't think much of it. Later that night he woke up to a huge nasty looking spider on his arm. I wish I could have heard the high pitched girly scream that must have come out of him at that moment. This is a picture of the dead spider. As you can see, it was huge!
His finger is getting better, but he had to get some heat therapy this week.
Emilee and Jacob enjoyed a new treat at the local bakery - the Choco Twist! Boy we are going to miss the pastries here!
The big news this week actually came from the states. My brother Brian and his sons Milo and Noah were on Shark tank. We were sad to miss the viewing party, but excited to watch the episode. I think they absolutely killed it. They had 3 sharks bidding to be part of the business. You'll have to watch it on a re-run! Season 6, episode 4.
Finally, Saturday morning we went on a temple trip to do baptisms for the dead in the Frankfurt temple. We dropped Kim and Ashton off at her parents new apartment. They've really settled into their mission and are feeling more productive. Because I had 3 kids there, they asked me to perform the baptisms. 20 people at 10 baptisms a piece and my right arm was tired! Afterwards, we picked up Kim and her parents and had a great meal at a Chinese restaurant close to the temple. It is a tradition that the Luxembourg ward hits this restaurant before driving the 3 hours back home.
On our way back home we hit some traffic and started driving through little towns. It was pretty awesome to see all of the locals in their leiderhosen heading to go get drunk at Octoberfest! We're really hoping to see a bunch of drunk Germans do the traditional bavarian chicken dance at the Haufbrauhaus in Munich this week!

Until next week...
