This week we celebrated Jake's birthday early because he needs to practice on all of the different styles of cubes for his cubing competition in the Netherlands in November. He's super excited to represent Luxembourg and is trying to get country records on each of the different styles of cubes. He's a great kid and it was fun to celebrate his birthday!
Emilee sent me a text in the week and said she'd purchased a pain au chocolate with all of her little coins. It was so funny because I do the same thing almost every day. You get a lot more coins here in Europe, so we're always trying to figure out how to get rid of them in the most efficient way. It was impressive that Emilee used almost all copper color coins to pay for the pastry. Victory! Makes it taste twice as good!
For mutual we played kickball. As we were describing the rules we realized that we may have made a mistake. These kids have no idea how to play baseball. So it was difficult and very confusing for them. Weird how you just grow up learning the rules of something and not even realize it. Emilee said, "I never even remember learning how to play kickball!"
Spencer's finger is healing good, so he won't have to wear any weird contraptions at night.
Grandma & Grandpa got here about 2:00 on Saturday. We came home, unloaded their stuff and then went right to down town Luxembourg. We hit all the same sights, Oberweiss, the Chocolate house, the Duke's Palace, the Grund, Casemates, Notre Dame, Angel Moroni's wife, etc. Luxembourg is a small, but very nice place. I think Grandma really liked how quaint it is.
They were surprised that we didn't live on a farm. The Barn doesn't look much like a barn from the outside. Kehlen is a small compact rural town. We're right in the middle of town, so it doesn't feel very rural. But 3 three streets over you're in a field, so it feels rural to us!
We had some good Kehlen chinese food for dinner and enjoyed catching up with Grandma and Grandpa.
Sunday morning we didn't have church because of General Conference, so we headed over to Trier. We've been looking forward to visiting Trier with Grandpa all year long because he served his mission there. It was super fun to see him remember little details from his mission. We visited the Porte Nigra, the museum, all three cathedrals, the basilika, his old apartment road. We were giving him a hard time because he couldn't remember which building it was. We got to the right street, but couldn't find the exact place.
We finished up with Brats, french fries and gelato. It was a super pleasant morning with no rain! Grandpa and Grandpa went to Reims and Paris, which we drove home and took a nap!
Turns out it was Father's day in Luxembourg and Ashton made me a super cute paper shirt with lots of cute little pictures. He's an awesome little kid that loves to make crafts! This is a super fun age to be here with him.
Until next week!
