Week 40 Summary - Disneyland and the Eagle Court

This week was another beautiful Fall week in Luxembourg.  The weather has been absolutely stunning.  Nice and cool, but not too cool!

On Wednesday we went to Guardians of the Galaxy.  It was good, but not great.

Not too much exciting happening at work or at home this week.  The tradeshow was good, but not great.  We got about 5 prospects that we need to follow-up with.

Emilee had a personal progress night at the church on Thursday.  It was fun to watch her and her friends model their modest clothing.  She has a really good set of friends and leaders here in Luxembourg.

Spencer fell on the way up the Barn's concrete stairs and broke his finger.  It hurt quite a bit, so he was very protective of it all weekend.  It is his middle finger, so he loved showing everyone!  ;)

Friday night Kim and I attended the KNEIP art collection open house.  It was very cool as Bob Kneip brought in all of his modern art and invited the artists to show additional pieces throughout their offices.  It is amazing how creative people can be.  Kim really loved the pink freestanding jeans.  Bob has a couple real Andy Warhol paintings that are worth a bunch of money.  After walking through the event we walked over and had a nice little dinner at a higher end Kebab shop.  Kind of like Kebab in a box.  It was yummy.

Saturday morning we woke up at 5:00 am to get ready to head to Disneyland Paris.  This is our 5th or 6th drive to Paris, so we know the route pretty well.

Disneyland Paris looks like Disneyland, but it has its own feel.  The castle was waaaaay cooler, but overall it felt a little less magical and more facade than the original in Cali.  The park was pretty crowded, so we only rode about 10 rides.  We drove little cars, hit the Buzzlight year ride, rode Big Thunder Mountain, Space mountain 2 and Indiana Jones.  Space mountain was definitely better than California as it had a loop-de-loop.  Thunder mountain was better as well as it seemed a little longer.  Ashton did not like Thunder mountain.  It was dark and loud and lived up to our nickname for Disneyland - Scaryland.  Jacob was scared to death as a little kid on most of the rides in Disneyland.

Indiana Jones is a short roller coaster - nothing like the real thing in Cali.  Tower of Terror was exactly the same, but in French.  Ratatouille was a new ride that Kim and the kids loved.  Ashton and I rode a little roller coaster while they went on the new ride.

We ended the day on a roller coaster based on a rock and roll theme.  It was fun, smooth, fast and loud!  After a great day we headed home at about 9:00.  I listed to NPR Radio West podcasts to stay awake.  It is pretty hard when everyone else in the car konks out.  We got home just after midnight, safe and sound.

Sunday was a big day as we had an Eagle court of honor for Jacob.  He finished his eagle project just before we left in January.  He wanted to get his award over hear as a Lone scout in Luxembourg.  The court of honor was virtual with family and friends in Luxembourg, Germany, Utah and Nevada.  We really appreciated everyone joining.  Kim did a great job decorating.  The ceremony was short and sweet and we enjoyed yummy brownies afterwards.  That will be something that he'll score points on when he plays 2 truths and lie!  No one will believe that he received his eagle in Luxembourg!

Being here definitely has helped us appreciate the scouting program.  It is a great way for young men to learn a ton of good principles and life skills.  We're definitely proud of both Spencer and Jacob for being eagle scouts.

Pretty hard to believe we are at week 40 of 50.  We're really looking forward to my parents visiting in October.  My mom has a very painful medical condition right now and we're hoping that she can still come.  We'll keep her in our prayers!
