The Aagards arrived on Tuesday night after visiting Strasbourg and Trier. We met them downtown and showed them the sights around Luxembourg. Gelato, the Grund, Casemates, Grand Duke's palace, etc. They were beat after a long day, but we had fun staying up late and talking to them about our adventures here in Europe.
Wednesday the Aagards went to see Verdun and Bastogne. We met them at Vianden and walked around the town. The kids were good sports on seeing Vianden again. It is a really cool castle the first few times, but we've taken there at least 5 or 6 times because it is so cool.
The Aagards left for the Rhine river on Thursday morning.
Here's a great picture of Ashton in his new Euro Speedo and swim cap! He gets to swim every Monday as part of school.
T-turtle passed away this week. We were worried how Ashton would take it, but as you can see in the photo, he's moved on! What a joker!
He loves creatures and he found a really cool caterpillar in Switzerland that has now cocooned that he calls "Catti". The bummer is that it doesn't come out of its shell until June! That's a long incubation period. As you can tell he also likes Lambos and Ferraris!
For mutual this week, we cleaned the church. The boys did a really good job at doing a deep clean. We've done a lot of fun activities so it was good for them to get some good old fashioned service in as well.
This morning I took the older kids and we headed up to the Nurburgring. It is a super famous race track in Germany. There were several races going on and qualifying for the Nurburging 1000 race tomorrow.
The tickets were really cheap and they allowed us to go everywhere on the track, even the pit row. It was super fun to see all of the semi trucks, drivers, mechanics, cars, etc. We've never seen so many Lambourghinis in our entire life. There were at least 50 around the track as one of the races was an all Lambourghini race.
We stayed the whole day and watched several races. It started to get exciting when it started to rain. We were great underneath a big canopy covering the seats, but the cars started sliding and crashing. It was incredible that they just changed tires and kept racing. It was pretty impressive to see these cars speeding down the straightway. They would kick up huge rooster tails that were several times higher than the car itself. I don't know how they keep as much traction as they do and I for sure don't understand how they can see with that much spray.
We saw several crashes, but nothing really serious. Lots of cars would spin out and just continue. One guy hit the barrier they pulled him out and he tried to keep going spilling broken parts and rocks all over. Eventually his tire completely blew out and came off.
We had a great time watching all of the different races. Our favorite was definitely the Lamborghini race. The super car racing was impressive because we got to see R8's, Ferrari's, Bentley's, Aston Martins, etc. These were souped up pure race cars, so it was very impressive.
Near the end of the day we did some karting like we did in California a few years ago at K1Speed. They were very fast, electric go karts. We had a great time for 10 minutes racing around an indoor track at the Nurburgring.
An hour and a half home, Kim made some delicious potato soup and I'm blogging and watching the BYU game. They are losing right now, so hopefully they make some adjustments after halftime! Interception BYU! Nice adjustment! Don't get your hopes up, don't get your hopes up....
