Week 2 - School was Horrible!

The title explains what the kids thought about school.  It was the first day of school for the big kids.  We went to the school early to figure out the kids schedules.  The English director took the kids to their classes and taught out how to figure out where their classes are.  Spencer and Emilee got lost in the building, but they found a teacher that helped them find their class.

Spencer and Emilee had all of the same classes.  Emilee liked that because Spencer could help her understand what everybody was saying.  Emilee had a very hard time understanding the teachers.  They spoke in English, but they had a very thick accent.

It was a big eye opener for all of the kids.  They heard lots of swearing in the halls.  At lunch they were walking home and they saw all of the kids pull cigarettes out of their pockets and start smoking.  They could smell smoke on the people during school.  A lot of the kids had piercings.  The posters in the hall were sexual.  The kids were all very shocked.  We found out later that this school is a technique school, which means the kids are not going to college.  Everything is very strict there, but most of the kids are very noisy, which Emilee didn't like.

The kids came home for lunch and when Emilee came in she was crying.  She said, "I never want to go back, I hate it!"  Mom made the kids go back and finish the rest of the day, and we would talk about it later.

Emilee hated it the most because she couldn't understand anyone.  She couldn't hear the teachers or the students.  She also didn't like being around kids that swore and smoked.
Spencer didn't like it because he couldn't understand also, and the kids scared him.

Jacob didn't like the school because it was inappropriate.

Overall the kids hated the school, and didn't want to go back.

When dad got home from work, mom and dad talked to each kid individually and the kids told them their thoughts.  They realized that we really didn't like the school.  They looked online and found an online school.  They called and found out some information, and told the kids.  They all liked the idea way better, and the online school starts January 28th.  So they won't have school for a month.  They are going to focus really hard on French.  They will study about 3-4 hours a day.

While the older kids were at school mom, dad, and Ashton went to figure out Ashton's school.  He was very worried that he wasn't going to understand, but his teacher does speak English.  He is going to love his school.  They will speak Luxembourgish, but the teacher said he will pick it up.  He starts school tomorrow.

Today we also went to look at the apartment we want.  We really hope we get it.  We will find out tomorrow if we get the apartment.

Mom and dad went shopping to get more food, because we need provide dinner for the missionaries tomorrow.  Dad found this huge Twix candy bar!  Some things here are very small, but they do have some big things, just the like Nutella.

Ashton finally got a pet today!  They went to the pet store and found a chameleon.  That is what he wanted the most.  It was really expensive, it had to have a huge cage, and you couldn't touch it.  Ashton really wanted a pet that you could touch.  They couldn't buy any reptiles because you can't touch them.  Ashton found a hamster that he loves, so he got it!  It's name is Hammy Eiffel John Luke Lux Cahoon.  He keeps adding more and more names.  But we call him Hammy.  Hamsters are really shy, so it takes time before they can trust you to hold them.  Everyday you put your hand out and let the hamster sniff it.  Eventually he will feel comfortable and will allow you to hold him.  But Ashton is not that patient.  He really wanted to hold him.  He tried picking Hammy up, and Hammy bit him.  Ashton learned his lesson.  He is very impatient though and wants to hold Hammy.

Today was a crazy day, and the kids are glad they don't have to go back to that school.
