Week 1 - The Adventure Begins!

The morning of December 30 we woke up at 3 am and finished packing and at 4 am we headed to the airport!  Grandpa and Grandma Cahoon drove us to the airport and we said goodbye.  We had tons of luggage!  We had 12 suitcases and 2 carry-ons each.

Our first stop was to Houston.  Then we had a 2 hour layover, then we headed to Newark.  We hurried with our heavy carry-ons over to our next flight to Zurich.  This flight was 7 hours, which was very long.  We were entertained with the movie screens on the headrest.  Ashton fell asleep and was not happy when we woke him up.  He was so delirious.  The kids all got their first stamp in their passports.  We had a 6 hour layover, which was not fun.  Dad, Emilee, and Jacob went to a bakery and found yummy chocolate croissants and bread.  We found a place to sit and we all went to sleep.  We were all very exhausted.

Finally we got on the last plane and headed to Luxembourg.  Dad got us a car, but it only fit 5 people and is the size of a Prius.  We loaded as much luggage as we could and Dad, Ashton, Emilee, Spencer and Jacob went to our apartment.  Jacob and Dad went to pick up mom and the rest of the luggage while Emilee and Spencer carried the luggage up 3 flights of stairs.

In our apartment we have 2 bedrooms.  Dad and mom share, Emilee and Ashton share, and Jacob and Spencer sleep in the kitchen and living room on a cot.  After we got situated we bundled up and went exploring.  We walked around the towns square which is really cool.  We went to the Chocolate House and got hot chocolate.  The chocolate house is right next to the Grand Duke's palace.  As we drank our yummy hot chocolate we watched the guard walk back and forth.  After hot cocoa we went to the St. Michael cathedral.  It was built in 987.  Very cool place.

After that we were starving so we went on a search for food.  Because of the New Year holiday everything was closed.  We finally found a Chinese place.  Only one waiter spoke very little English.  Thankfully they had an English menu.  The waiter taught us eau plata which is water flat, which means without bubbles.  We did not stay up for the New Year because we were exhausted.  Emilee was the only one that slept well because everyone else could hear the very noisy fireworks going off.  It is crazy that we are finally here.  This is going to be an awesome adventure!
